description -> "Topside has always been a refuge for climbers. Even out of season, various sectors can produce some surprisingly good conditions. Being both elevated and near the coast there is a notorious topside wind that blows through to startle un-jacketed newcomers.\n\n## Access\n\nFor a long while, Climbing at Topside was risky business. The authorities that manage much of (if not all of) the topside area were quite explicit about prohibiting bouldering because of the environmental risk that it poses to the area.\n\nSince then, there has been something of an enlightenment. The conservators have been convinced that the impact is minimal, and friction to access has come down enormously. Topside is big enough that different sectors may have different access constraints (always be sure to check if you are driving through a gate that **closes after a certain time**) but for the most part things are not as they were, and we are in the golden age of topside.\n\n## History\n\nSome of the earliest work in the topside and redhill areas was done by (Guy Holwil)[https://www.climbing.co.za/author/guyh/], who created (One of, if not the first, guides to topside)[https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BzyCre52kPaldUYyQzZ2U1NGWlk?resourcekey=0-SAMIyYtHe5DincwQTTbCDA]"
